Ojo, contiene spoliers.

Phoenix Force is a manifestation of the essential cosmic force, which stems from the psyche of all living beings across the Universe, and whose power is unlimited. Phoenix Force incarnates emotions more than intellect, specifically the passion to create and destroy.

Long time ago, returning to Earth in a space shuttle, X-Men were exposed to a very strong cosmic storm. The pilot would be exposed to radiation, and Jean Grey offered herself as volunteer, hoping her telekinetic powers would protect her. But radiation was too strong to her to stand it. Phoenix Force felt her desperate feelings to save the X-Men, and her love for Scott and his friends, so it manifested to her and offered to save her.

Since then, Jean and the Phoenix Force has been one. And this has been her blessing and her damnation. Because power corrupts, and an infinite power, corrupts infinitely. Handing over to her more sinister side, Dark Phoenix went to star D’bari, in the Shi’ar Empire, and drained its energy, turning it into a supernova and annihilating the entire population of the system, 5 billion people.

X-Men united against her, and with its bodily death, the Phoenix Force seemed to be gone for good, and Jean Grey herself lived on.

But now, awaken and driven insane by the Shi’ar, Phoenix Force manifest again, without host, in a corner of the Shi’ar Empire, who seem to have brought it back to destroy it. But it manages to escape, although extremely weak, and comes to Earth, seeking for Jean, the human being it was bonded to for so long. But Jean died confronting the fake Magneto, by a powerful electromagnetic impulse; Phoenix Force bring her body back lo live, but she fights to contain the dark side of the Phoenix. In these circumstances Quentin Quire went into scene, looking for the Phoenix Force to help him bring Sophie back to live. Then, we have the Shi’ar, X-Men and Quentin looking for Phoenix, Phoenix looking for Scott, because it needs his optic blasts to regain energy, and Jean looking for Wolverine… to kill her.

Yes, to kill her. Because Jean knows Logan is the only one that loves her so much he’ll no hesitate to kill her if it’s needed (he has done it before). But still there is something deep inside Phoenix consciousness… a longing it don’t know where it comes from.

I’m not going to tell much more, but I’ll let you some images, that worth more than thousand words.

I’ve enjoyed it like hell. A good and closed story, by Greg Pak, and AWESOME drawing by Greg Land. Covers are one of the best things I’ve seen in a long time, and some frames transmit an incredible power. The double page in the last issue where all her friends call Jean to help her control her dark side is just… just…

Quoting Greg Pak: “Scott Summers is at the emotional center of the series. As the human being with the deepest connection of anyone to Jean Grey, he has the most to gain or lose on a personal, emotional level from the return of the Phoenix. And as the leader of the X-Men, he has the greatest responsibility for confronting the menace of Dark Phoenix”.

Recommended for everybody. ‘Must have’ for marvellers and muntant-lovers.
